Five Frogs

Forgive my frog fascination. This is the deal. My urban neighborhood is largely devoid of cool creatures. We just got crickets in the last two years thanks to escapees meant for the kid's tarantula up the street. Nice evening chirping now; drowns out a lot of city chatter and often sounds like the country. So, intent on a little more wildlife, I nabbed ten tadpoles from bucolic SLO (with permission) and made them fend for themselves in a half wine barrel with mosquito fish and comets. The comets started nibbling them, so we banished the offenders to a new half barrel in the front yard. Feeling bad about the abduction, 4-hour drive in a milk jug to the southland, the goldfish attacks, and the dry landscaping outside the barrel, we dug a hole and installed a 50-gallon pond. Little frog resort. This afternoon, there are five frogs lounging at the resort. These guys are tough -- big props. Hopefully they'll settle in for more than one season.

Nice Legs

Look at this little guy -- he's now up to ALMOST half an inch. There are two Pacific tree frogs in the bottom pic. Good luck finding them.

Small Surf's Up

Check out the hang-ten practice. Six years old.
